Today on the Fall Sweater Challenge, we are featuring one of our amazing designers, Lynette Meek. We had a little interview, so grab your favorite cup of coffee and sit down with us.
Lynette has been knitting for over 35 years; teaching knitting for about 17 years and designing for about 8 years. In 2011, She won a design competition and subsequently had that pattern published in Vogue Knitting. Since then she has been published in many esteemed publications such as Vogue Knitting and worked for some pretty awesome yarn companies such as Buffalo Wool Company, Malabrigo, Zealana and Koigu.
In 2013 The Buffalo Co and I discovered each other! It was a design Competition that they were hosting. I won! We have worked together ever since. I am constantly inspired by their yarns!
Q: When did you start designing?
A: I started designing around 2008. The first patterns were intended for class projects only! A few of my students told me about Ravelry and said that I should really check it out! And so it started….The early patterns were a little bit rough but, I have learned so much over the years. The last few years in particular.
Q: What inspires you?
A: Everything and anything inspires me. It could be a picture, a colour, a phrase or a yarn! Most often it is the combo of yarn and colour, And it is a feeling, a time, an emotion that I want to evoke and bring to life!
Q: How do you plan your design process?
A: Plan; I am not sure that I really plan; once I have the yarn or the image I make a rough sketch and start knitting- I still mostly design on the needles. I am still learning how to write a pattern and then have someone else knit it up! That is part of my personal learning curve.
Q: Where can we find you on social media?
A: Social media has been a boon for independent designers! Look for me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and I blog on WordPress!
Q: Anything else you want to share?
A: Knitting is my passion. I never want to loose that joyous feeling of creating something beautiful with two sticks and some pretty string. Hence the creation of the #designerschallenge, I always want to be part of the “fun” stuff!
